When does your period return after giving birth?

It can often take a number of months for your periods to return, this is particularly normal if you are breastfeeding your baby. Some breastfeeding mother’s find that their periods do not return until after they have stopped breastfeeding. For others, their period may not return for at least 6 months after the birth. Women who do not exclusively breastfeed usually find their periods returns within 2 months.

You will have a free check-up by your GP or obstetrician 6 weeks after the birth of your baby called the post-natal check. This is to ensure you are recovering from giving birth, and that you are feeling well.

If you are not breastfeeding then pop to your GP for a check up, although it can take time for hormone levels to adjust after birth, but better to err on the side of caution.
