Ideally, your video should be split into two parts:
Part 1: A little bit about you (3-5 minutes)
Your name, years qualified etc. and 3 interesting things (fun facts) about yourself (Feel free to sit down and relax in front of the camera for Part 1)
Part 2: Teaching Demo (5-8 Minutes)
I know it can be awkward recording yourself for the first time… so present this video as if you are presenting to a class of 20 excited expectant parents…. this will allow you to really show yourself in action.
Any props necessary for teaching this topic should ideally be present if possible in this video (this is as if you are teaching a live class).
Your camera should be approx 1-2 meters away, this will allow you to really show us your teaching style, body language etc. (Phone camera/Zoom recording is sufficient).
At The Baby Academy, our passion is education. We strive to ensure that our midwife instructors are as enthusiastic about this as we are. We love to see this positivity and enthusiasm come across in your video. Please remember that we need 10x times more energy online than in person.
Online teaching skills are also hugely important, so try to keep the demo engaging. You can do this by ensuring that you are smiling, positive, and humorous and please let your own personality shine through. I can’t stress enough the importance of bringing energy to this video.
And finally, something that we feel very passionate about is that knowledge is power. We aim to empower all our parents-to-be with up-to-date, evidence-based information, so again it would be super to see this weaved throughout your demo video.
Here is a little selection of Baby-Care Classes and Childbirth Education Classes which will give you hints and tips for creating your own video:
